CGI Window Installation: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide
CGI window installation in Woodland Hills typically runs $85 to $165 per window when you’re replacing a failed part or re-seating an existing unit, and $450 to $1,200 per opening when the window itself has to come out and go back in. Most jobs are done same-day once we’ve matched your part. The way most homeowners find us: a window suddenly won’t close, a corner is fogging, or the crank handle spins without moving the sash. That’s a part failure, not a window replacement, and it’s exactly what we fix.
We’re Juniper Windows Woodland Hills, an independent service provider. We aren’t affiliated with CGI, but we work on their products constantly and stock the parts that fail most often in this climate. If you’ve got a CGI window acting up, call (831) 508-3441 and describe what it’s doing. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a $20 part or a full re-install, before anyone rolls a truck.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI’s product line breaks into a few families, and the part you need depends on which one you have. The Estate Collection (their impact-rated aluminum line) and the Sentinel Series (hurricane-rated casement and picture windows) share some hardware, but the Targa Series and older Classic Line use different balance systems and rollers entirely. Before you order anything, grab the sticker on the inside of the frame: the CGI serial number starts with a three-letter model code, and that code is what tells us which parts fit. No sticker? Measure the visible glass width and the frame depth, and send us a photo of the failure point. We’ll sort it.
One thing worth knowing about CGI specifically: their impact-rated glass comes as a sealed laminated unit, and you can’t re-glaze just one pane. If the glass itself is fogged or cracked, the whole sash or the sealed unit gets replaced. If it’s a roller, a crank, a lock, or a weatherstrip, that’s a serviceable part, and we keep genuine CGI hardware on the truck along with quality aftermarket equivalents where they match spec. OEM parts cost more and preserve the original warranty trail; aftermarket saves money and often installs the same. We’ll quote both when both exist, and tell you which one we’d put on our own house.
Signs Your CGI Window Installation Is Failing
- The sash drops when you let go. That’s a failed balance or a snapped block-and-tackle shoe. In west Valley heat, the nylon components inside the balance get brittle, and the window loses the ability to hold position.
- The crank turns but the window barely moves. The operator gear inside the crank housing has stripped. This is common on casement windows that get forced open against a stuck weatherstrip, and it’s a $40 to $90 part, not a new window.
- You can hear wind or see daylight at the corner. The compression weatherstrip has flattened or the frame has shifted slightly out of square. Woodland Hills gets enough hot, dry air that seal failure shows up as dust lines on the interior sill first.
- The window is fogged between the panes. The seal on the insulated or impact-rated glass unit has failed. There’s no repair for this; the sealed unit gets replaced. On CGI impact glass, the laminated inner layer makes this a heavier, more involved swap than a standard double-pane.
- The lock no longer aligns or engages. Either the keeper has shifted, or the lock mechanism’s internal roller is worn. This one matters for security, and on a ground-level window in Woodland Hills it’s worth fixing the same week you notice it.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we quote in Woodland Hills, in writing, before any work starts:
- Balance or block-and-tackle replacement: $85 to $140 per window, parts included
- Crank operator or handle replacement: $95 to $150 per window, parts included
- Weatherstrip or seal replacement (full perimeter): $110 to $180 per window, parts included
- Lock or keeper repair/replacement: $75 to $125 per window, parts included
- Sealed glass unit replacement (standard CGI double-pane): $380 to $650 per window, parts and labor
- Impact-rated glass unit replacement (CGI laminated): $700 to $1,200 per window, parts and labor
- Full window re-installation (remove, re-level, re-seal existing unit): $450 to $800 per opening
Every price above is a line item, not an estimate that drifts. You’ll see the part cost, the labor, and the total before you approve anything. And every installation we do carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the part fails or the work isn’t right within a year, we come back and fix it, parts and labor covered, in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look for the model sticker, note whether the problem is in the glass or the hardware, and test whether the window is binding at one corner or evenly stuck. That information saves time when you call. But once you’re dealing with a window that’s out of its track, a counter-balance under tension, or impact-rated glass that weighs more than you’d expect, get a trained person on it. These parts are under load, and a sash that lets go at the wrong moment does real damage to fingers and frames alike.
If you’re in Woodland Hills and the window’s fighting you, call (831) 508-3441. Sean Mackey and the crew will tell you what it sounds like over the phone, and if it needs hands on it, we’ll schedule a visit with a written price before anything comes apart. Get the numbers right the first time, or you’re caulking over somebody else’s mistake.
FAQs
In the San Fernando Valley’s heat, most CGI hardware (cranks, balances, weatherstrip) lasts 7 to 12 years before something wears out. The glass itself, if it’s a sealed unit, typically holds 15 to 20 years unless the seal fails early. Windows on the west and south sides of the house, where afternoon sun hits hardest, tend to fail first. Call (831) 508-3441 and we can tell you whether your window’s age makes repair worth it.
Most hardware can be repaired or replaced in place: a new crank, a new balance, a new lock, a fresh weatherstrip. The exception is failed glass, which has to be swapped as a sealed unit. If the frame is warped or the window has pulled out of square, that’s an installation problem, not a parts problem, and we’ll fix the install, not just swap the part.
A single hardware part (crank, balance, lock) takes 30 to 60 minutes once we’re on site. A sealed glass unit replacement runs 60 to 90 minutes. A full re-installation of an existing window is a half-day job per opening. We’ll give you a live arrival window when you book, and you’ll get photo updates of the work as it happens.
We stock the common CGI hardware on the truck: crank operators, balances, locks, keepers, and weatherstrip for the Estate, Sentinel, and Targa lines. For less common parts or impact-rated glass units, we order directly and schedule the install once the part lands. We also stock parts for PGT, CWS, and ES Windows. You won’t need to chase anything down yourself.
