ECO Window Systems Window Installation: The Woodland Hills Owner’s Guide
We install and retrofit ECO Window Systems windows throughout Woodland Hills, and most replacement or new-installation projects run between $850 and $2,400 per window, parts and labor included. That’s a real number, written down before we touch a single screw. If you’ve got an ECO window that’s fogged between the panes, binding in the frame, or letting a whistle through when the Santa Anas kick up, you’re likely looking at a failed seal, a warped sash, or a worn glazing pocket, and we carry the parts to fix it.
The phone number to call is (831) 508-3441. Sean Mackey runs our Woodland Hills crew, and he’ll tell you straight whether that window needs a replacement part or a full frame swap.
Which ECO Window Systems Models This Applies To
ECO Window Systems builds single-hung, double-hung, casement, and horizontal slider lines, and the compatibility question comes down to two things: the series label and the glass package stamped on the spacer bar. Most Woodland Hills homes we service have ECO’s 7000 or 9000 series frames, which use a 7/8-inch glazing pocket and a standard balance channel. If your window’s corner joint screws are visible on the interior frame, you’re almost certainly in one of those two lines, and the replacement balance, tilt latch, or sash guide we stock will drop right in.
The OEM-versus-aftermarket decision matters more on ECO than on most brands because their balance springs are tuned to the weight of their particular sash. A generic spring rated for the same “window size” will often leave a double-hung that slams shut or won’t stay up. We carry OEM ECO balances and pivot bars on the truck, plus aftermarket weatherstrip that actually holds up better than the factory felt in the west Valley’s dry heat. The factory felt dries out and cracks within six or seven summers here. We swap it for a compression bulb weatherstrip that doesn’t turn to dust when the humidity sits at 12% for three months straight.
One gotcha worth knowing: ECO’s pre-2015 7000 series used a non-standard balance shoe that’s no longer manufactured. If you’ve got an older frame and the sash won’t stay up, we usually convert the entire balance system rather than hunt for a discontinued part that costs as much in labor to find as the conversion does.
Signs Your ECO Window Systems Window Installation Is Failing
- Fog or condensation between the panes. The desiccant inside the spacer bar is saturated, which means the perimeter seal has failed somewhere. No amount of wiping fixes it from the inside because the moisture is trapped in the air space between the glass lites. In Woodland Hills, this usually shows up first during the May gray mornings or after a summer monsoon push.
- The sash drops an inch or two when you release it. That’s a balance system failure, not the glass. ECO’s coil or block-and-tackle balances lose tension over time, especially on west-facing windows that get pounded by afternoon sun off the Warner Center corridor. A new balance is a 20-minute fix we do on-site.
- You hear wind noise even when the window is latched. The compression weatherstrip along the meeting rail has flattened out. On a double-hung ECO window, that center rail is the first thing to leak, and it usually gets worse in winter when the vinyl frame contracts in the dry cold mornings.
- The crank or operator grinds and the casement won’t seal tight. ECO casement operators strip their gear teeth after roughly eight to ten years of regular use in the Valley’s dust. The window still “works” but won’t pull the sash tight against the jamb, which means your U-factor on paper and your actual heat gain stop matching.
- Water stains on the interior sill after a good rain. On ECO sliders, the weep holes along the bottom track clog with silt and the channel overflows inside. It’s a drainage issue, not a frame crack, and the fix is usually a new wiper seal plus cleaning the weeps and re-leveling the sill.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For a single ECO window in Woodland Hills, here’s the honest spread:
- Balance replacement (sash won’t stay up): $180 to $320 per window, depending on whether it’s a coil balance swap or a full balance system conversion on an older 7000 series.
- Weatherstrip and seal replacement (drafts, wind noise): $140 to $280 per window, including cleaning and re-aligning the sash in the frame.
- Insulated glass unit replacement (fogged or cracked pane): $450 to $900 per sash, priced by glass pack size and low-E coating. ECO’s standard low-E squared glass runs toward the middle of that range; oversized or impact-rated glass runs higher.
- Full window replacement including frame: $850 to $2,400 per opening, depending on size, retrofit versus full tear-out, and whether the house is a stucco exterior (most of Woodland Hills, north of Ventura and south of the 101) or a wood-siding situation.
Every price above includes the part, the labor, the haul-away of the old unit, and a written line item breakdown before work starts. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers our installation work, in writing, for a full year: if the labor fails, we come back and make it right. No charge, no argument. Sean’s been doing this long enough to know that a window seal either fails in the first year or it holds for fifteen.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do yourself: check the label on the spacer bar to find your series and glass pack, clear the weep holes on a slider with a small wire or compressed air, and wipe down the tracks. That’s it. Where DIY goes wrong on ECO windows is the balance system. Those coil springs are under serious tension, and removing a balance without releasing that tension properly will take a finger off. The glazing bead on ECO’s 9000 series also snaps in with a specific tab pattern that cracks if you pry it wrong, and a replacement bead is a factory order you’ll wait three weeks for. Sean’s signature on this one: “Get the numbers right the first time, or you’re caulking over somebody else’s mistake.” If your window is more than sagging weatherstrip, call (831) 508-3441 and let us put it in writing.
FAQs
Figure on 20 to 25 years for the frame and roughly 10 to 15 years for the seals and balances, with the dry Valley heat and hard water from the local supply taking a faster toll on weatherstrip than you’d see in a coastal climate. The glass itself will last indefinitely unless it’s impact-rated and takes a hit from wind-borne debris during a Santa Ana event.
If your ECO windows are hitting that 15-year mark and you’re seeing fog or sag, call (831) 508-3441 for a free estimate on the replacement parts.
Yes, in most cases. A fogged glass pack, a worn balance, or failed weatherstrip can all be swapped without touching the frame, and that’s the cheapest way to get another decade out of an ECO window. We only recommend full replacement when the frame itself is warped, the corner welds are cracked, or the original install was so far out of square that the sash will never seat right.
A balance or weatherstrip job runs 30 to 45 minutes per window. An insulated glass replacement takes about an hour per sash once the glass is in our hands, and most ECO glass packs come back from the fabricator in five to seven business days. Full frame replacements run four to six hours per opening, depending on stucco work around the exterior.
We keep OEM ECO balances, pivot bars, tilt latches, and compression weatherstrip on our Woodland Hills service trucks, along with aftermarket bulb seals that outlast the factory felt in this climate. Glass packs are cut to order because the low-E and sizing has to match your spacer label exactly. We’re an independent service provider, not an ECO Window Systems factory outlet, which means we can tell you honestly when an aftermarket part is genuinely better.
Call (831) 508-3441 and we’ll confirm what’s on the truck before we roll out.
